FARID BOGDALOV
"Externally, from a formal point of view, my works are often insoluble paradoxes. Thus, the paradox, if it does not express the truth itself, at least transparently hints at its existence and in a certain sense points to the truth."
Farid Bogdalov's creative forms were formed in the late 80s, early 90s. The artist was trained academically in Painting at the Surikov Institute, and joined the contemporary art in the art squats of Furmanny Lane and Chistoprudny Boulevard.
Farid Bogdalov is particularly interested in the analysis of the widest visual contexts of modern civilization and society, which is described as a "society of the spectacle" par excellence. These are both ways of representing political and economic power, and the ubiquitous visual traps of the total consumption system.
Throughout his whole "Sweet Power" series, the original power of images borrowed from mass visual culture (advertising, the Internet, etc.) competes with the power of reflective art, whose main weapon is analysis, irony and paradox. In outwardly simple-minded, seemingly filled with light humor and mild absurdity compositions, in fact, everything is not so simple and unambiguous. Various objects, such as books, dumbbells, beer mugs, sports equipment, toy monsters in combination with sugary creams and ice cream are turning into objectified metaphors of power and suggesting thoughts about nature of its different varieties – the power of knowledge, sports, wealth and authority. But it is also a reflection on the notorious power of art and the nature of artistic taste.
